Delos Therapy has some amazing clients with extraordinary stories and we want to take the time to share their success with our therapy. Meet Mary, an active mother and grandmother suffering from chronic hip pain. Read her interview to find out her amazing transformation since starting Delos.

How did you hear about Delos?

MM: My daughter, Katie, actually turned me on to Delos. Katie heard about Delos from a friend and they both have had positive results which convinced me to try it for myself.

What issues brought you to Delos?

MM: When I began Delos Therapy, I had a very sore and painful left hip.

What types of treatments did you try before coming to Delos?

MM: Before Delos Therapy I went to an orthopedic surgeon. He told me I didn’t have a surgical issue, but bursitis. His recommendation was a cortisone shot and physical therapy, both of which I tried with little success. I still had pain, so I decided to try Delos.

What improvements have you made since starting Delos Therapy?

MM: I started out at Delos with a fairly intensive schedule, but I have to say my results are nothing short of a miracle. I know that sounds a bit dramatic, but I am happy to say my hip is great. No more pain. I can lay on my left side when sleeping without pain. I can walk, bike and continue the activities that I enjoy without pain. As an extra bonus, I have had chronic neck pain for years. Doctors say it is arthritis. I have tried massage therapy, acupuncture, traction, numerous prescription drugs, physical therapy…the list goes on and on. These modalities provided short, temporary relief but it never lasted. Delos Therapy gets you out of pain and it lasts.

What would you say to someone who hasn’t tried Delos Therapy?

MM: I would tell them to give it a shot. What have they got to lose? If it is a muscular issue, Delos can help. It has been a win win from my perspective. Delos provides you with a complimentary evaluation. Even from that twenty minute session I could tell the difference in my issues. The Delos therapists are a very caring group. They come from many backgrounds and I found that some of them have known chronic pain themselves. They really want to help and get you pain free.

Tell us something unique about you.

MM: I can’t say I am that unique – I am an active 60+ year old who wants to remain that way. I have a husband, four children, three grandchildren and a lot of living left to do.

What We Know About Muscle Health From Doing Therapy On Children

What We Know About Muscle Health From Doing Therapy On Children

During the last few years the Delos team has been invited to participate in a “Family Health and Fitness Day” at a local elementary school. While we enjoy teaching kids about muscle health and the Delos technique, a surprising outcome of doing Delos Therapy on very young people is the learning that takes place for our newest therapists.

At Delos, we know from decades of clinical experience that hyper-contracted muscle fibers are the root cause of most cases of chronic pain. In our daily lives, when we work or when we train in the gym, the repetitive motions or sustained contractions we experience cause muscle fibers to relax and contract. Over time – sometimes years and decades – contractions become shorter and shorter, ultimately resulting in hyper-contracted fibers that are no longer capable of flexing and relaxing.  When this happens, symptoms of stiffness and pain begin to emerge due to limited mobility or pressure and forces pulling on joints and clamping down on vessels and nerves.

One physical characteristic we encounter consistently when working on clients is that the muscles surrounding areas that are experiencing pain or stiffness feel especially hard to the touch.  Many people who see us for the first time don’t find this hardness problematic until we address the topic of true muscle health. We’ve come to the conclusion that most people believe that muscles should feel hard. In fact, most people go to the gym to get the “hard” body look. There are even gym classes called “Buns of Steel” that suggest gluts should be hard like metal.

We are here to assert something different – a fundamental characteristic of healthy muscle tissue is its softness when it is in a relaxed state.  We’ll say that again – healthy muscles should feel soft to the touch.  The only time “buns” should feel like steel is when they are flexed. In fact, we have had the opportunity to palpate the muscles of extremely muscular bodybuilders and what we have found is that their muscles are extremely soft to the touch. The hardness is apparent only when they flex. The reason the muscles look hard is because the area around the muscle is very lean, containing little body fat and water, and the skin is taut around the muscle, giving it a hard appearance. In reality, their muscles are soft when in a relaxed state.

So what have we learned or validated from doing therapy on children? First, when we palpate children’s muscles, they are almost always soft to the touch. Children don’t tend to have a lot of pain because their bodies haven’t been put through years of repetitive motions and sustained contractions to cause hyper-contraction and tightness.  At their young age, their muscles still exhibit optimal health. Second, since their muscles are healthy and soft, children don’t feel pain during Delos Therapy.  Some of our clients will say that getting therapy can be painful and they describe it as a “hurts so good” sensation. In reality, applying pressure on healthy muscles should not be painful.  Only when fibers are tightly bound, preventing circulation, compressing nerves and pulling on joints, do we notice that there is sensitivity to pressure.

Our therapy is designed to undo muscle tightness using a complex, systematic approach. We understand that loose, soft muscle fibers lead to superior performance in the gym and in life. Essentially, our goal is to restructure unhealthy muscle tissue and restore it to the state it was in when it was most healthy – in our youth.

Delos Therapy has some amazing clients with extraordinary stories and we want to take the time to share their success with our therapy. Meet Debra, a developmental therapist suffering from debilitating back pain. Read her interview to find out her amazing transformation since starting Delos.

How did you hear about Delos?

DG: It was at the 2015 Veggie Fest in Lisle where I first discovered Delos Therapy.  As I was waiting for my mini-treatment at Veggie Fest, I observed the therapists to be extremely knowledgeable, professional and sincere in their efforts to provide exceptional therapy treatments.

What issues brought you to Delos?

DG: I was experiencing debilitating upper right back pain when I began Delos Therapy.  Coughing, sneezing, driving over the smallest bump in the road were all painful experiences. Most of the time, I could not anticipate which movement might trigger a PAINFUL moment. I could no longer swim, bike ride or practice yoga.  Walking and hiking for more than 10 minutes became impossible activities.  During the momentary painful spasms, I was unable to take a breath or a step forward.  I was providing therapy services for children with disabilities and this was  impossible to continue.  I was unable to sit on the floor or lift the children without experiencing the excruciating pain in my back.

What types of treatments did you try before coming to Delos?

DG: Chiropractic treatments, weekly deep tissue massage, acupuncture, working with a personal trainer, TENS therapy, water therapy, stretching, and I tried to continue with my yoga class.  I had an MRI and EMG testing previous to my treatment at Delos.

What improvements have you made since starting Delos Therapy?

DG: AMAZING RESULTS!!  I am experiencing the listed activities above, without the severe pain in my back. I feel more energized and free to move since I am no longer exhausted from daily pain. I have been slowly increasing the machine weights and have incorporated Nordic Walking into my physical activity.  I am truly grateful for Delos Therapy/Eric’s expertise in assisting me in my recovery!

What would you say to someone who hasn’t tried Delos Therapy?

DG: Give yourself the gift of a healthier functioning body and the opportunity to feel better!!!  Begin your journey today, towards greater health!! Truly, a dedicated group of professionals – Delos Therapy!

Delos Therapy has some amazing clients with extraordinary stories and we want to take the time to share their success with our therapy. This month we had two clients who achieved similar goals and couldn’t pick just one! Meet Mary and Corinne, both competing in the Obstacle Course Racing World Championship and both suffering from shoulder injuries. Read their interviews to find out their amazing transformations since starting Delos.

How did you hear about Delos?

MP: I heard about Delos while attending a beach workout at North Avenue Beach over the summer. Delos was giving mini treatments and after getting on the table, I realized this was a technique that could work for me.

CP: I heard about Delos at the same event as Mary, the Hangover Cure at North Avenue Beach. I found the treatment very helpful and afterwards I decided to investigate continued therapy.

What issues brought you to Delos?

MP: As a competitive obstacle course athlete, I tend to push my body to its limits in unique ways.   My hamstrings were perpetually tight with a desk job, yet I became complacent. A new shoulder injury from a race was the moment I knew I needed to take my body’s recovery seriously. I only had 3 months to get ready and be “pain free” for Obstacle Course Racing World Championships (OCRWC).

CP: Over the summer, I had really ramped up my training for Obstacle Course Race World Championships (OCRWC). I started noticing a slow reduction in my shoulder’s range of motion and increased pain. Then when I injured myself during skills training, I knew I had to try to find something to fix it.

What types of treatments did you try before coming to Delos?

MP: Before starting with Delos, I tried physical therapy, yoga and a lacrosse ball. While these modalities were useful in strengthening my muscles, I was still struggling with pain and tightness.

CP: Before starting with Delos, I tried ice/heat, massage, stretching and foam rolling.

What improvements have you made since starting Delos Therapy?

MP: Since working with Lia, my hamstrings have been more relaxed and my shoulder injury has improved dramatically. The true moment success was nailing OCRWC and successfully completing 10 trail miles, 50 obstacles with 3000ft of climbing and return a day later with zero complaints during the event and after. Lia and I were both thrilled!

CP: Since starting my sessions at Delos, I have resumed full range of motion in my shoulder and I no longer have pain. Delos was an integral part of my physical training for OCRWC. With my Delos sessions I was able to continue training while treating my pain, and helping my shoulder to heal. As a result, I was able to race injury free and placed in the top 10 of my age group. I could not have done it without Delos.

What would you say to someone who hasn’t tried Delos Therapy?

MP: If you have tried it all – foam rolling, lacrosse balls, PT, yoga – and still need relief, this is it. It takes time but it’s worth the investment.

CP: If you need real pain relief, definitely try Delos!

Tell us something unique about you.

MP: When I turned 39 I realized I needed to take my health back. Two years later I’m down from size 12 to a strong and healthy size 2. I’m grateful for re-learning how to be a kid, and have fun while being active. I never expected to be competing with paid athletes and rank 10th woman in the WORLD in my age group for Obstacle Course Racing. Anything is possible with the right team supporting your goals.

Delos Therapy has some amazing clients with extraordinary stories and we want to take the time to share their success with our therapy. Meet Daniel, a high school student who was suffering from debilitating migraines. Read his interview to find out his amazing transformation since starting Delos.

How did you hear about Delos?

DS: I heard about Delos from my sister, Sol, who had been receiving Delos Therapy for over two years. She swears by it. Being an avid athlete all her life – CrossFit, boxing, tackle football, water polo, dance, etc. – she knows their treatment is effective and would be the solution I was looking for.

What issues brought you to Delos?

DS: I had extremely severe and debilitating chronic migraines that started in 6th grade. The migraines became progressively worse and more frequent, reaching the point where I suffered from them on a daily basis. In many cases, they were so bad they prevented me from my daily activities, including attending school. My migraines would be so severe I wasn’t able to get out of bed, nor be in a room with light. Any type of light would aggravate the piercing pain that shot above my eye and temple area for long periods of time. As you would imagine, my high school academics suffered tremendously from missing so much school. This was certainly the rock bottom point for my migraines. This was also when my sister told me about the effective progress she experienced at Delos Therapy with her chronic pain and injuries. Three and a half years of struggling with my migraines, countless doctor visits, pain meds, MRI’s and alternative treatments, I started my treatment with Eric Owens at Delos. He did a clear job of explaining the source of my migraines, as well as walking me through the root-focused treatment. This was a refreshing change from some of the previous doctor visits that consisted more of prescribing me medication that treated my symptoms versus the root of the problem.

What types of treatments did you try before coming to Delos?

DS: Before starting with Delos, I tried acupuncture, saw a chiropractor, had an MRI and was prescribed a variety of medications.

What improvements have you made since starting Delos Therapy?

DS: Once I started Delos, I started seeing results within a few weeks. The migraines went from debilitating and daily to almost never. I had fewer each week as I progressed through my treatment plan and now they happen so rarely that I no longer consider them an issue.

What would you say to someone who hasn’t tried Delos Therapy?

DS: If there is even the slightest chance that your pain is being caused by tight muscles, try Delos. It may seem like the pain has nothing to do with muscles, but Delos can help with a variety of issues so its definitely worth a try.

Tell us something unique about you.

DS: Something unique about me? Well, for starters, I have three older sisters old enough to be my mother, literally. (I also became an uncle at the mature age of 7). My father always wanted a son, and twenty-odd years later… surprise! He got his boy.
