Avid CrossFitter with Knee Pain: Imran
April 7, 2017   |   By Delos Therapy Team

Delos Therapy has some amazing clients with extraordinary stories and we want to take the time to share their success with our therapy. Meet Imran, an avid CrossFitter suffering from knee pain. Read his interview to find out his amazing transformation since starting Delos.

How did you hear about Delos?

IR: I heard about Delos from a friend, Donatella. She’s the type of person who is very critical when it comes to trying something new and knowing what works and what doesn’t. Being very analytical myself and knowing nothing about Delos, I was definitely hesitant and I rarely trust just one person’s opinion when it comes to trying something new. Since her opinion is one I trust, her rave review and confidence in Delos is what pushed me to try it. At the time, Delos was on Gilt City so I purchased one so that I could try a few sessions.

What issues brought you to Delos?

IR: I had been dealing with knee pain for about 10 or 11 months when I started Delos. The pain was a clear, uncomfortable pain that presented itself the most while working out. As a CrossFitter, it was both mentally and physically affecting my workouts. I would have to push through the discomfort to “warm it up” and found myself feeling the need to stretch it out long after my workouts were over. While it wasn’t enough to actually prevent me from working out, I had to wear a brace and be constantly aware.

What types of treatments did you try before coming to Delos?

IR: I actually hadn’t tried anything except for stretching. I ignored it for a long time because I was afraid of what might be the cause and what it would mean to have it remedied. When I decided to come to Delos, I had also been considering physical therapy and Airrosti as well as seeing an orthopedic surgeon. Again, being analytical I had to really investigate all my options. None of them were a guarantee. All of them were going to require time, of which I don’t have a lot nor was I willing to give up a lot. What really made Delos stand out was there was no need for extra work outside of my appointments and it was a half hour of my time a couple times a week. A simple process and based upon Donatella’s recommendation, the perfect solution.

What improvements have you made since starting Delos Therapy?

IR: I had immediate relief during the evaluation. After just one session, I could do a squat without pain. There was no need to “warm up” or push through. Post workouts, I didn’t have the nagging need to constantly stretch out my knee after sitting for a while. After a few sessions, I could do all my workouts at full capacity without pain or hesitation that there would be pain. It made me more mentally prepared for my workouts as well. I was now able to focus on the workout itself rather than the pain. Kate found that my ankle had been contributing to the knee issues as well so we are exploring this new area so that I’ll have even more mobility.

What would you say to someone who hasn’t tried Delos Therapy?

IR: I would definitely want to give them the confidence to try Delos. Explain to them how this therapy is not at all what you think it will be. It’s not another massage, its so much more. Go in for an evaluation and let the therapy speak for itself. I must have asked over 30 questions in my first few sessions to just try and better understand what was happening and Kate and Rob answered every one of them with confidence. I would want to take away any misconceptions they might have because this will work for you. The therapy manipulates the right muscles in the right places to relieve the affected areas. It’s an easy commitment and effective solution.

Tell us something unique about you.

IR: There are a lot of interesting things about me but probably the most unique is that I’m half Indian and half Mexican but grew up 100% like a typical American suburban kid. I’m as white as they come haha Also, the absolute most important thing to me in my whole life is my French bulldog Ella. She’s my entire world!
