Shredder (Shred415) Recovering from Hip Surgery: Kurt
June 5, 2017   |   By Delos Therapy Team

Delos Therapy has some amazing clients with extraordinary stories and we want to take the time to share their success with our therapy. Meet Kurt, a Shredder recovering from hip surgery. Read his interview to find out his amazing recovery since starting Delos.

How did you hear about Delos?

KR: I heard about Delos through Shred415. My wife, Tracy, is one of the owners of Shred and met Mimi (Delos co-owner) a few years ago.

What issues brought you to Delos?

KR: About a year and a half ago, I started having issues in my left hip. At first, I thought it was a hip flexor issue. As an avid Shredder, I was doing a lot of running and assumed that was the cause of the injury.

What types of treatments did you try before coming to Delos?

KR: When the issue first started, I was stretching and doing yoga and Pilates to try to loosen up the muscles in and around the hip. As the condition worsened, I started to think it might be a skeletal issue rather than a muscular one and as it turns out, I was correct. An MRI revealed I was having issues with bone on bone in the joint and surgery was the only option. In January of this year, I opted for a hip resurfacing procedure over a full replacement. The resurfacing was my best option for returning to an avid, active lifestyle.

What improvements have you made since starting Delos Therapy?

KR: Even though the issue was skeletal and not muscular, I knew that Delos would need to be a part of my recovery. While the resurfacing surgery was less invasive than a full replacement, it still caused a lot of damage to the surrounding muscle tissue. Keeping this tissue mobile, flexible and healthy would be key during my recovery, which I knew I would get with Delos. My goal post surgery was to make progress, no matter how small, every day. Three days post surgery I was working on getting off crutches. Physical therapy was needed but progress was slow so about a month post surgery, I started with Delos. Kate was able to aggressively approach the hip flexor and surrounding tissue to reactivate the muscle and maintain mobility. Having the muscle tissue in a healthy state has aided immensely in my overall recovery. Instead of my day-to-day progress being 0-0.5%, it was 1-2%. The accelerated healing has lead me to being back taking Shred classes already. I’m back to being active with my daughters as well. Just last week I was able to help at soccer practice and play catch –both of which I couldn’t do pre-surgery.

What would you say to someone who hasn’t tried Delos Therapy?

KR: Honestly, I’d look at them in confusion and ask why haven’t you?? The ability that Delos has to restructure and reactivate muscle tissue is astounding. The whole body is interconnected so even if the issue isn’t muscular directly, having healthy muscle tissue plays a huge roll in overall health. Delos is the reason I’m back to being active as quickly as I am post surgery. And will continue to be part of my regimen as I ease back into working out.

Tell us something unique about you.

KR: I am a dad of 3 beautiful, active daughters and the husband of a business owner who is excited about being able to fully participate in all aspects of our very busy and active lives!
